Last Week

Being out of school last week only made me want to be out of school THIS week. I had a great time. On Tuesday, I took my Aunt Goo (Louise but I call her Goo) to Tunica. She is at a casino at least 3 times a week but she won't go to Tunica unless I take her. She always gives me gas money AND gambling money. Who wouldn't go?!? I sat at a poker table for about 6 hours and lost all HER money but had F U N. It's always cool to play poker and meet all the people around you. My dad (Goo's brother) met us down there. I had to pick Anthony up at the airport at 9p so he took her home. Now anybody who really knows me, knows that I could not find my way out of a paper bag. I am absolutely "blond" when it comes to directions. I don't know my north from my south, barely my left from my right (kidding), and for pete's sake don't give me directions by "landmarks". Ex- big tree turn left. If you do the landmark thing, I need to know what they look like at night bc for me they look totally different than they do in the day. Seriously, I am developmentally delayed in the direction dept. Soooo, I take off for the airport in Mempho from Tunica. I take a wrong turn (do not even ask me how) and ended up in the "bad" part of town. I call my dad and he freaks out, my aunt freaks out, and I am cool as usual. I mean this is what I "do". I am used to it and don't have the good sense to be scared. It's nighttime and I don't even see well at night. Probably why I wasn't that scared. Anyhoo, I stop at a KFC and the nice drive-thru man points in the direction I should go ( I "get" pointing:)) and I miraculously am off to the airport. Dad and Aunt still aren't comfy and want me to pull over on 240 and wait on them to "escort" me to the airport. My family is well aware of my directional defect. So much that my dad gave me his GPS for the woods. And yes, I have been lost in the woods. That WAS scary.

I finally picked up Anthony (without the help of family I might add!) who was not surprised at all of my escapade. We finally get home around 11p. We decide to leave the following morning for deer camp. We pack up everything plus Blakely and Clifford and head down in separate cars. I take Cliffy bc I want to stop at Mack's in Stuttgart. If you have never been to Mack's, it's kind of like going into a Toys R Us for hunters. I spent WAY too much time in there and bought way too much. Merry Christmas to me! Being at deer camp for Thanksgiving was very cool. We all had a wonderful time. I was the only girl hunter there. 2 others brought their wives, but they don't hunt. I try to stay away from the menfolk as much as I can. They like to tease me. I swear I am bullied. Anthony swears they love me and like that I am there, but I remember that deer camp is for guys and sometimes girls are not all that welcome. Either way, I like to hang out in the camper. They usually send Anthony to get me out. This is what they "tease" me about:

1. They know I am not a very big person so when they see me in all my hunting attire with size 6 boots they laugh and make references to the Michelin man. Like "are you in there" and "what all did you eat last night"?
2. They all know about my direction issues. I am not even going there. I think they tease Anthony more for having to take me to deerstands. And if he doesn't take me, I have to text him as soon as I get there so he won't send out the posse to find me.
3. I hear and see things in the woods that the men swear is my imagination. This really pees me off. I may be directionally challenged, but I watch Animal Planet and I KNOW things. Here's a rundown:
a. black and white fuzzy spiders. they are everywhere. ya'll know i don't like spiders. apparently, they only show themselves to me. next time i am going to snap a pic.
b. there are chipmunks in arkansas. i know the difference btw a squirrel and a chipmunk. hello, alvin and simon? there was one under jimmy's stand (which i was hunting). the guys say there are no chipmunks down there. What EVER.
c. at dark on jimmy's stand on friday, i heard 4 consecutive sounds that reminded me of a lady screaming. i have heard plenty of screech owls and this was not one. i am thinking panther. seriously, and let me tell you why. i heard it running and then i heard it chomp on an animal. the poor animal was a rabbit i think. it sounded like the sound a rabbit makes when being chomped. i know this bc i have seen and heard a dog do this to a rabbit. it was pitch black and STEPH was NOT coming down from the stand. No way. It was spooky. The guys made fun of me but I think I scared Jimmy a little.:)

I decide that Blakely, Clifford, and me are coming home on Saturday whether I kill a deer or not. I'd seen deer on the stands, but either couldn't get a shot or didn't want to shoot. Saturday morning, Anthony and Blakely slept in so Ron Hall took me to my stand. He's a great guy. He has to have his Diet Coke just like I do so when he'd forgotten it (and me my cushy seat) we had to reverse back to camp. He slams into a pole. What a way to start the day. We finally get to where we were hunting so we split up. I head to my favorite stand. It's actually "my" stand. I love it! It's been moved out to the road so I can really see in all directions. I am up there eating my oatmeal creme pie and drinking my diet coke when I hear a deer. Ron texts me as says buck is headed my way. I look to the feeder and there is a very large doe eating corn. I wait on the buck. After 30 minutes of watching this deer eat all my corn I decide the buck is not coming. I text ron and he says shoot. I did. Great shot. Ron didn't believe me when I told him she was pretty large. But guys, she was big. I think she was an older doe. So in under one hour, I had my power breakfast, killed my deer, and headed back to the camper. Now that's the way to hunt! LOL I immediately packed all of our stuff and we headed home at 10.

In my haste to get a "real" shower when I got home, I managed to forget I had my cell in my pants. Which I put in the washing machine. Needless to say, i need a new cell phone. At least I have insurance.:)
OK, this was a very long post. Hope you enjoyed it. Will update sometime next week. Later.....

Christmas before Thanksgiving

OK, I am in the process of putting up not one, not two, but THREE trees! Insanity. Ofcourse one has remained up all year. Long story. However, I am about to run screaming "Bah Humbug" down Knight St. Why on Earth would one familyhave 3 trees? Insanity?
A few homes in my immediate area and on my street have had "suspicious" activity including a vehicle break-in two doors down. I am hoping we look "redneck" enough with the camper and my deer antlers hanging in the garage to scare off any hoodlums. If not, I have been schooled well enough in handguns, rifles, and assault weaponry to hopefully become their worst nightmare if stupid enough to try stealing at this residence. Not to mention the guarddog Clifford. Yeah, right. LOL It's pretty rough here in FC. I have lived here all of my life (except 7 wonderful years in Little Rock) and I have watched it slowly go down the tubes. It used to be a pretty cool place to live. Perfect distance from LR, Mempho, and Jonesboro. Now it's just crap. I don't know what anyone can do to turn it back into the city I lovingly remember. Oh well.
Back to Christmas.....I have to go back to WallyWorld this evening to finish buying outside lights. i just could not stomach it this morning. It's supposed to rain but maybe it will hold off until I finish the Davis version of the Griswold's light show.:)
I really want to know how the Twilight movie came out. If you have seen it, please comment on what you thought. I am debating on seeing the show tomorrow.
I hope all have an absolutely wondeful Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for in our family. Although life has its ups and downs, really, it's an awesome world. I am glad to be a part of it. Later......

Camp

I took off Friday at school to go to deer camp. Anthony was tired of spending money at the Holiday Inn Express in Monticello so he bought a top of the line (i'm serious) camper. I was kind of skeptical of the whole thing. I don't camp if ya know what I mean. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This camper thing is neato. We went to WallyWorld and loaded up to make the thing as close to home as possible. It truly has everything you need to make your whole "experience" comfy.
We got to camp on Thursday pm. Blakely and Anthony got there early pm but me and Clifford (the french bulldog) didn't make it until that evening. As most of ya'll know, I am pretty short. Well, Clifford is even shorter. This camper is jacked up so even Jolly the Green Giant would need assistance to get up in it. My butt, abs, and legs got a total workout from those freakin' steps. Clifford, on the other hand, was not as lucky. Before we could pick him up to get him down the steps to go potty, he bolts. Hangs his toenail in one of the little round holes on the steps (a perfect fit) and RIPS his ENTIRE toenail OUT of his paw. DIS-GUST-ING. OMG there was blood everywhere. I am upset, Blakely is upset, and Anthony just says, "he'll be fine. i've done that before" (What?!?) While Clifford is bleeding like a stuck hog (which he also just happens to look like and sound like), I am busy cleaning up the blood he has drug across the new camper carpet. Ahhh, it's feeling just like home.
The really fun part is there were a lot of people there we knew. We hunted on Friday. I didn't see anything and managed to get lost going to my stand only once. Then we had a cookout. I ate a hamburger on the grill. It was good until about 1 hour later. Hence my next story..... the camper potty. Now this bathroom is clean and all but it's still like a porta-potty(sp?). I had stomach issues (thought I'd been poisoned) and the potty experience just made me sicker. I managed to trump Cliffo on the DIS-GUST-ING. I managed to get through it but you know when you feel really bad you feel better just sleeping on the couch....so I traded beds with Blakely. I did feel better on Saturday stomachwise but neck/back/arms wise I was broken. I swear that couch broke every bone in my upper body. I could barely move. I was a trooper though and went on to my stand. If I thought it was difficult moving when I first got up, boy did I have fun getting down from the stand. I literally thought this is what I have to look forward to when I am 50? Alas, this dark cloud did have a silver lining. I discovered Advil Liquid Gels. They are my new wonder drug. I popped two of those and ouila! NO PAIN! I could get up to hunt another day:)
Last day, Sunday morning. I had seen exactly TWO whole deer in 2 days. Boring...Boring! My fabulous hunting family slept in so I had to do everything myself and get to my stand on my own. I am notoriously known for getting lost so Anthony (to say the least) was nervous. I actually made it to my stand by 530. I did not get off my stand until 1045. I had the absolute best time! I saw 15 plus deer. I stopped counting. I had whiplash from looking so fast from side to side just to keep up with them (no worry I have Advil!). Most all were button and spike bucks. One actually came up to my stand and looked at me. Too cute! I didn't fire a single shot. Not because I didn't have a shot to take. I could have killed several, but I truly enjoyed watching. Not to mention not all were legal to harvest. I went home deerless but happy.
Sidebar:
1. Although I did not get lost n Sunday, I could not figure out how to start the 4 wheeler. Embarassing.
2. The real reason I didn't kill a spike deer was because they looked just like our pet deer Roscoe. With Blakely in camp, I didn't even go there.
3. I can hardly wait to go back at Thanksgiving. Anthony may make a "camper" out of me yet!
4. What on Earth did we do without cell phones?????
This week is the last week before Thanksgiving break. I can hardly wait to be out ONE entire week! I so need it! Will try and post later this week.
JAKE: thanks for posting daily. I've missed you!

Good things come to those who wait

I did not kill a deer this weekend. I only saw one itty bitty buck (3pt) and that was it! However, I had a great time! I enjoyed sitting on my stand watching a gazillion squirrels. I kind of freaked myself out when I spied a very large (about the size of a nickel!!!) gray/black fuzzy spider crawling on my stand. I screamed and killed it. This is probably why I didn't see any deer! LOL But whatever....the only good spider is a dead spider.
After a full weekend of stand sitting I am in need of a serious massage. I think my back is broken. So, I have my one hour "therapy" scheduled for this afternoon.
Our house was shown by a realtor today. I doubt it will sell in this economy but you never know. Keeping my fingers crossed. Where will we go? Hot Springs. When will we go? Who knows.
I have a lot I want to write on this post but it will have to wait until much later. Hope all are having a stellar Monday!

Now the rest of the story.....

I have waited almost 24 hours to write this post. The last few times I blogged in anger it may not have been for the best. Live and learn I tell ya.
Here is my complete presidential voting record from 1988-present. My gift to you:
1. 88: George Bush vs. Walter Mondale. I voted Mondale. Lost vote.
2. 92: George Bush vs. Bill Clinton. I voted for Bush. Even being from Arkansas I could not nor would I ever vote for Bill. He made a pass at my mother. I didn't/don't trust him. Lost vote.
3. 96: Bob Dole vs. Bill. See above. Lost vote.
4. 2000: Al Gore vs. GW. I voted for GW because I didn't like anyone connected with Clinton. A trust issue again. Technically, I lost this vote. But thanks to the Constitution and the Supreme Court I ended up winning. Wow.
5. 2004: GW vs. John Kerry. I voted for GW again because there was really no choice. John Kerry is an elitist. I legitimately won this vote.
6. 2008: Obama vs. McCain. I actually voted for McCain but only because of a trust issue. Lost vote.
I have never liked EITHER choice for the presidency in ANY election I have voted. There is always a loser (usually me). What I can not (or ever) understand is why people resort to fear and hatred. Adults and least of all children should be going around spouting off hate. I hate n******, I hate Obama, I hope Obama dies. Are we the same people living in the bible belt? And if he is the Anti-Christ so what? As Christians should we be afraid or should we be excited because the end is near? How's that for an ironic twist.
And just because some blacks preach hate does that give us license to do the same? Remember our parents asking us if so and so jumps off a bridge are you going to follow? I was raised to think for myself and always try to do the right thing. I know the right thing is not filled with hatred or fear. We live in the greatest country in the world where ANYONE from ANY RACE or BACKGROUND can achieve their DREAMS. It's a win/win situation. In four years if we don't like how things are going guess what...we can try to change them. That's the best part. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your life. And if the Democrats (and understand it's the group not just one man) totally stink up the next 4 years we can sit back and say, I told you so!

Field trip, pancakes, hair, and rubdown

Today was an absolutely awesome, productive day. Here's the rundown:
1. 1st thing I met my senior government class at the Forrest City Civic Center. We were on a field trip! To watch me vote! All 15 of them got to meet my former city councilman (Chris Oswalt), and my current city councilman (Steve Hollowell). The boys even helped Steve put up some McCain/Palin signs. The line was not too long, but the ballot sure was. Did you know that there are SEVEN candidates for President listed on Arkansas' ballots?!? It was taking a really long time to electronic vote so I opted for the tried and true paper. I will not share my votes as that would be un-American of me.
2. After voting, we went to the First Baptist Church for Kiwanis pancake day. It was all you can eat! We really enjoyed ourselves. I am extremely proud of my group. They were polite, well-mannered, and cleaned up their mess (even though they didn't have to). I love 'em.
3. My students had to go back to class, but I got to go to Russ Lee's funeral. I have mixed emotions which are too personal to share, but let's just say it was a funeral.
4. Afterwards, I got my hair cut and colored. Looks smashing!
5. And the BEST part of the day: a ONE hour massage at the health club! I have had WAY too good a day (except for see#3). But I think I deserve it.
ELECTION sidebar: I think it will be closer than some think. We shall see.
Personal note: I will return to work tomorrow. Hopefully in a much better mood than previous days. Sometimes all you really need is a day off.

Sad

Our computer bit the dust one week ago today. I have had to use my work computer (when I could) to check my email, facebook, blog, etc. so I haven't been too up on this blog. However, we bought a brand spankin' new Dell yesterday! Happy Early Christmas to us! LOL
Yesterday brought some sad news. An old friend of ours, Russ Lee, from Palestine died. He had a heart attack in his sleep at his parent's home. Russ was only 38. I will attend the funeral this week. I haven't seen or spoke with Russ in years, but my prayers go out to his family.
Not that anyone needs reminding, but go vote on Tuesday! I will update my blog after my field trip that morning. I am taking my senior government class to the polls with me, and then we are eating breakfast at the Kiwanis pancake day. I think they are looking most forward to that! Surprise, surprise!
Glad the Hogs won!
Unbelievable update: I made homemade potato soup. Yes, you heard me, HOMEMADE! It is awesome if I do say so myself! Anthony is wondering what's up with that. It's because my baby is sick and that's what she wanted. Of course I let him think it's for him too. I am so bad.
Later......
