I put this 25 Random Things about me note on Facebook but a very wise blogger I know gave me the idea to copy and paste to my blog. If you have read already, please forgive. But if you're reading for the first time I hope you enjoy learning more about me than you really wanted to know. LOL
1. I work crossword puzzles all the time. Not the cheezy People entertainment ones, but the hardcore New York Times and Washington Post. I finish them too.
2. I can not touch wooden utensils that are wet. This just makes my skin crawl. I am sure there is a deep seeded psychological problem I have that causes this. Just tack it on to all my other problems.:)
3. I practice yoga. I am not good at it which is why I say I "practice" it. Yoga is way tougher than any workout I have ever tried. It beats Billy Blank's Tae-bo in spades. Try it sometime if you don't believe me.
4. I am licensed to carry a concealed weapon. Enough said.
5. I love to deer hunt! Actually, I really love being out in the woods by myself the most. It is the most calming, peaceful thing I have ever done.
6. I was raised First Christian but also tried Baptist and Presbyterian. Settled on Methodist which is most like me. Finally!
7. I am an only child, only grandchild, and only niece. To say I am spoiled would be the understatement of the new millenium.
8. I am actually shy and reserved. OK, this is a total lie but I thought it might spice up this note! LOL I usually am the one most like "mikey". Ask Steph, she'll do it.
9. I get motion sickness in everything but an airplane. Bus rides=ill. Back Seat car rides=ill. Amusement park rides that go round and round=ill. Go figure. Airplane=I can go anywhere, anytime.
10. I have my own blog. daviscubed.blogspot.com It's cheezy but fun. Check it out if you are bored.
11. I used to be 5"2" now I am barely 5"1". I still refuse to drink milk.
12. I do well at funerals. I tend to be more of a rock. Raised to fall apart only at home.
13. I am blunt and to the point. Cut to the chase already.
14. I thought I knew everything then I turned 25 and realized my mom really knew everything.
15. I try hard every day to get "it" right. Life is tough.
16. I will ask God two things one day: 1. Why create mosquitos and spiders? 2. Can't tell ya..it's personal.
17. I have driven 6 Nissan's. I really should do a commercial for them.
18. My husband bought me a Mercedes. I hated it. Who hates a Mercedes???? I am now driving a Nissan.:)
19. I believe in the "gray areas" of life. Not everything is black and white.
2o. I am always rooting for the underdog.
21. I am a Buffalo Bills fan since the days of OJ. I used to have his jersey and helmet. Boy that didn't turn out well, did it?
22. I like beer, wine, and whiskey but not at the same time. :) Gin, though, is not my friend.
23. I knew the minute I saw my husband that he was THE ONE. If you don't believe me, ask Melissa Wilbanks Thomas or Andrea Winston Hale.
24. I have one dog, Clifford. A french bulldog that is the most disgusting dog on the planet. But we love him beyond words.
25. And last, but never least, I have one daughter who will turn 10 on Tuesday. She is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love her more than myself and hope and pray she won't need too much therapy when she grows up because she got me for a mom.

WOW
As I write this blog entry, I am enjoying the sounds of silence the snow makes. It looks like a mini-blizzard outside and I am wondering how in the world weathermen keep their J O B S?? Why don't they just say heck if I know? LOL I knew something was up when I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and it WASN'T packed. I think we all know that here in the Delta our weather is a lot like the Bermuda Triangle. It just never makes sense.
Yesterday was absolutely perfect. Blakely turned the big double digit of TEN and had an awesome skating party! I am soooo thankful that the weather cooperated. She had a good turnout in spite of winter weather panic. She got a lot of cash which is a good thing. She needs to purchase a Wii Mario Cart for me, er I mean for her, to play:)
I did skate at her party yesterday and this morning I am reminded by the pain in my butt and thighs that alas, I am 40. I probably shouldn't skate nor should I have a page on Facebook (sorry jake i couldn't resist..LOL) but I just can't wrap my mind around my age. I don't feel 40 (whatever 40 is supposed to feel like) and I don't look 40 (thank you to my mom for the good genes) but I AM 40. It is a weird number to be. My 30's whizzed by and so far my 40's seem kind of slow. I really hope that's the pace it continues but I have a feeling it'll start speeding up. What I know for sure is that any day above ground is a good day so here's to seeing many more years to come (hopefully!) with pain or without.
Well, I am fixing to go back to bed. We did get a snow day. I was actually worried for a sec but Mr. Billy came through! So enjoy your snow day and stay warm! Later........
FOOTNOTE: My child just informed me that now that she is double digits she thinks she will start wearing makeup!!!!!!! What the crap????? If I could save time in a bottle...oh, I soooo would.

My Best Day EVER
Ten years ago today, I became a Mom! To say it was scary would be the understatement of the year. I was scared to death! But somehow it all worked out:)
Blakely was born in Jonesboro on this very date at 7:02p. She is an awesome kid! Extremely smart (like her mom--lol) and very funny (wow--like her mom lol)! She doesn't look a thing like me though. I honestly don't know what I did to deserve such a great kid. I am sure I will be eating these very words in oh....about 2 years. She actually says she's not going to act like the teenagers she knows. Mostly my kids at school--LOL. I bet she's gonna be 10x worse!
We will be at the Skating Star from 4-5:30 today for her bday party...weather permitting. I really hope this weather holds off. I so want her to have her party. She hates her bday being in the dead of winter because the weather is so unpredictable. On her 1st birthday, which she doesn't remember, it snowed a LOT. And a few since them have been affected because of the winter weather. This one is a big one for her so I really hope we can "do" this party AND that all her buds get to come.
I am addicted to Wii. I LOVE playing all the games! I am into Wii Fit and I am the Hula Hoop QUEEN. I was actually sore from playing! That's just a hoot! I have to say I like getting a cocktail and shooting pool on the Wii as well. Really relaxing.
Well, I am about to go start yet another glorious day but today really IS for me! Happy Birthday Boobear! I LOVE YOU!

Dancin' with Myself
I am alone. Well, not really, Clifford is here with me but no kid and no husband. I eat what I want, watch what I want, clean what I want, stay on the computer all I want...just plain old me time. I miss both of them but I am an only child. I like being by myself occasionally. It's a nice treat for me. I just wish i felt better. I am nursing a cold. I really don't like colds. They are such a nuisance!
I bought a new vacuum cleaner today. It has all the bells and whistles and is heavier than me. But it WORKS! Clifford hair sucked right up. Lovin' it! And I get a modest workout in the process. I even broke a sweat! Speaking of....I have not been to the gym all week. That is really unlike me. Just not in the mood. I think it's the cold thing.
Facebook amazes me. I learn a lot of stuff I didn't know and some stuff I didn't want to know. LOL I do enjoy catching up with folks though. It's really cool that somebody you thought hated you in high school likes you now. It's not cool when you can't remember for the life of you who that person is! I feel really stupid when I can't place a person that obviously knows me. I am ashamed to admit that this happens a lot more to me than you would think. How many brain cells did I destroy in high school thru college??????
I really hope Blakely likes her birthday gifts. She turns 10 on Tuesday. I simply can not believe that she will be 10. Time truly flies. I wish it would slow down a little. Really, I just hope she won't need too much therapy because she got me for a mom. She is too good.
Well, I am going back to my vacuum cleaner. Two rooms to go. later......

Living History
Let me just start out by saying that I am not here to sway you to become an Obama fan. I teach Civics, Government, and US History. I LOVE History! I think it is wonderful and fascinating. Each day is a gift in life and not everyday is as historical as this one. Like it or not, the US made history today. To be able to watch the Inauguration ceremony LIVE on CNN and share it with my students was absolutely too good an opportunity to pass up. The pomp and circumstance absolutely fascinate me. Nowhere else in this world do ousted and/or past world leaders unite to usher in a new administration. Truly only in America. We are so unique and very good sports. Ofcourse when our Congress gets down to business we will return to our bi-partisan aisles because Democrats and Republicans have a very different view on how our policies should be. But they share uniquely and are united in their love for America. We are truly the greatest country on Earth.
I so enjoyed sharing trivia with my kids. They were, for the most part, respectful. Those that were not did not last long. In this life most of us are taught right from wrong. And no matter who you are, if you were taught right, you would not wish death upon another person just because they were different from you. And definitely not in front of their family. But sometimes we speak before we think and that's just part of life here in the South.
I truly hope that what came out of this day, all over our country, is that no matter who you are, what race or sex you are, no matter your background be it rich or poor, or where you came from or who your family is that you CAN strive to be whatever it is YOU want to be and that those barriers should no longer be an obstacle to your path. God has truly blessed the U.S.A.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
As my late Mamaw would say, "It's colder than a witch's boob in a brass bra"! I mean seriously is there a point for it to be THIS cold WITHOUT snow or ice????? I end up looking like Nanuck of the North by the time I get in my truck to head to work. LOL
The Classes of 84-86 are planning a reunion for a weekend in May. I think it is going to be fun. It will be held at the Rendezvous in Memphis. I, for one and apparently not alone in this, am SO glad that it won't be held here. That's sad, huh? It's kind of hard, OK shocking, to have been out of high school for 24 years???? I mean really, where did the time go?
Yesterday, I signed up for an online lit class at EACC. Going for that double major I guess and on to my Master's. Why? I really have no idea except I am bored. In this economy, I don't think it really matters unless you are in the medical field (JAKE!! HINT)
School has actually flown by this week. Mr. Billy is out with the flu which only reinforces my opinion that the flu shot is bogus. He got the flu shot and look what he got in return...theFLU. I took that shot ONCE when I was 19 and immediately got sick with the flu. I said I would not be doing THAT again. I may change my mind when I get "blue-haired" (that's what my mamaw called old people LOL) but for now I am just gonna throw caution to the wind.
Am going to Jonesboro tomorrow night to eat with friends at the 501. I must remember to not drink as much wine as I did last year. I still remember that headache! But it was good vino!
Well, stay WARM this weekend and enjoy! later.....

Does Life Get Easier????
As I write this post, it is 11:30 on a school night. I did not even stay up this late on New Year's Eve. I am drinking a nice Merlot and wondering what the heck happened. When you think you have gotten everything figured out, whammo!, life throws you a curve ball. One would think I would have learned this by now, but alas I have not. I stopped asking why a long time ago so I am just gonna go with karma. Somewhere, sometime, in my life I have done something and this is my payback...in spades. No, I am not dying (or atleast I don't think I am) and No, it's nothing that earth shattering but it IS irritating ME. Yet again I will get past but not without a little soul searching.
Just when you think you are all alone and having a pity party...you know the kind....where you drink wine, really feel sorry for yourself, and basically end your day crappily (not sure if that's a real word but I like it) God gives you just what you need. And BAM, you feel blessed and like a total idiot at THE SAME TIME. If you don't think God doesn't have a sense of humor, you obviously are not paying attention. Thanks Big Guy!
I am going to sign off now, get another glass of vino, search for reno911 (my guilty pleasure), and stay up til I make myself go to bed. If I am groggy tomorrow, so what, it was TOTALLY worth it. Later.....

Interesting Thought(s)
I have had a very productive day. My kids hate me, but hey, that's my goal! LOL The first week back after Christmas is ALWAYS rough. This week, it's rough but on them not me. I have had a little down time to ponder or question the following:
1. What's up with this weather??? Have you seen the forecast? I swear they change it every 5 minutes. They have no idea what the weather is going to do. All I know is it is C O L D. I am not a big fan of cold weather so I am hoping this little snap doesn't last too long.
2. Is it possible for me to break my addiction to Diet Coke? This is the only resolution I can not seem to achieve. I am a two a dayer. I really want to be a one a dayer. If anyone has ANY suggestions, please tell me ASAP!
3. I need a Wii. If you have one, what kind of games do you suggest to start out with.
4. I am now confronting my addiction to Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies. Seriously, I have a problem. I am not sure I even want to quit. I mean how can I possibly lick Diet Coke AND my Creme Pies at the same time. I think that falls into the category cruel and unusual punishment.
5. Go Steelers! Random, I know. But since my Bill's yet again stunk it up...I have got to move on.
Well, that's it. Stay warm. Later....

The Dentist, Chicken, and the King
Yesterday I drove from Marianna to Wynne to visit my dentist. I love my dentist! I love my dental hygienist! I am a very good patient. BUT my hygienist had the nerve to have her baby early! I had a sub who I had never met before. Now I don't know what you know about dental procedures, but I know I don't like surprises! This girl was nice enough but my goodness she was rough. I mean jabbed my gums a couple of times, didn't give me my obligatory carmex, AND I didn't even get to choose my polishing paste! What's up with that?!?
Tonight I decided to bake lemon peppered chicken, mac-n-cheese, and organic green beans. At least my family survived choking it down! I really can not cook. If I ever win the lottery I am going to hire a chef to cook every meal! Why you may ask wouldn't I just hire Rachel Ray to teach me to cook....because I DON'T WANT TO LEARN!!!!! I have enough "learned" crap in my brain already thank you very much. I am into downsizing these days. Until I win the lottery.....eat at my house at your own peril.
Today Elvis "The King" Presley would have been 74 years old. Some generations have important death dates to remember like where they were when they heard the news for example: man walked on moon, JFK got shot, Bobby Kennedy got shot, MLK shot, and so on. Not my generation....we know where we were when The King died. I was watching cartoons with my 2 cousins. Back in the day we only had 3 channels out of Memphis and oh yeah, the pbs station which makes 4. LOL Anyhoo, they cut in on our cartoons that day. I remember it was on every station and we were p.o.'d that Scooby had been interrupted. They showed the ambulance wheeling in to the emergency room and the announcement of his death. My family (sans me and the cousins) were devastated. It was a crappy weekend after that. Don't get me wrong, I really like Elvis but I was 9years old and I LOVED Scooby Doo. Flash forward to today...I am currently listening to Elvis on Direct.tv. It's good music. Seriously, it is...I soooo get it now.
Okay then.....Thank you. Thank you very much.

Fun, Fun, and more Fun
You know when you have something on your mind that you should keep to yourself but you speak it anyways? That is a very real problem of mine. I really dislike petty people. You know the ones......
1. Always stirring up stuff
2. Tattle tales
3. Two-faced
etc. etc. etc.
My problem is that I just straight up confront. I tend to all a spade a spade. Cut to the chase. Get to the freakin' point already. What's your problem? Get over yourself. What?! I don't like redudancy and I don't understand what is so big of a deal. Peace in the Middle East... now THAT'S a BIG deal.
Then there is my other problem of throwing fuel on the fire just because I know it will confuse the flame. That, for some, can be viewed as down right mean. I know. I really need to work on that but, for the record, I am not doing the stirring just stirring right back. Real mature of me.
Other that these little bumps in the road, I am having a bang up first week of 2009! How about you?

The First Day of H***, er I mean School
Back to the grind. I really did not want to go back to school today but I sucked it up and went anyways. The seniors are trying to get a case of senioritis a little early. I can't say that I blame them. I am very proud of several that applied for and received early entry into the college of their choice. However, it kind of gives them the idea that they no longer need high school. I remind them that they need the diploma but hey, who am I kidding??? At this point I want to fast track them out of here too! lol This is exactly why I don't feel bad about having a short class schedule come April when my 3 classes of seniors leave. Believe me...I EARN that 2 weeks of respite. If you haven't had the luxury of teaching seniors, you can not possibly understand.
I discussed with Mr. F today about the rumor of my relocation. Yes, our house is for sale. And yes, IF it sells we will be moving to Hot Springs. I only did this because Mr. Benny asked me about the rumor before Christmas. Personally, I don't think Mr. F cares if I work there or not. He is probably not alone in that opinion either. Oh well. I still have a couple of months to decide. I actually love to teach but am unsure if I am right for this job. I have got a lot of issues to resolve....boy is that an understatement. LOL
It has iced a little today. Of course, we go to school ALL day today instead of panicking and closing up shop. For once, it may have been the right call. I am really hoping that we go to school tomorrow but not until 10a. I have my own reasons for this that I shall not share.
So far, so good on my new year's resolutions. Well, hope you stay warm and dry. later....

The Gym
OK... I bit the bullet today and weighed myself plus calculated bmi and fat percentage. I have gained a few extra pounds over the holidays but they were well worth it. However, I was surprised that my muscle to fat ratio has improved. Thank you yoga!
After that little jolt, I decided I would actually work out while I was there. I did reprogram my ipod this morning and did remember to bring it to the gym. :) Jake...I have special workout songs as well. Here is my playlist for hardcore walk/run on treadmill or elliptical:
Gonna Make You Sweat by C&C music factory
Push It by Salt n Pepa
Lose Yourself by Eminem
The Way You Move by Outkast
Low or what I just call Apple Bottom Jeans LOL
Then for workout with weights I ONLY listen to 50 Cent. I absolutely love the whole album Get Rich or Die Trying. I know every word to every song. I do have the clean version but I am ashamed to say I know the dirty version. :)
I have a bunch of other random songs if I get bored but I am a creature of habit, so I usually stick to what I know. I actually spent over an hour working out. After that, I was starving! I came home and mowed down some deer summer sausage, a little cheese dip, and one chocolate candy. I drank a bunch of water so now I feel bloated and fat. LOL
I have to take this moment to rant just a little about Houston "manboob" Nutt. For those that know me this will come as no surprise. I really do not like this man. Today I got mad just thinking about how he left our boys high and dry at last year's bowl game. Nobody that actually likes him remembers that. I do remember. I know a lot of Ole Miss fans (which I promise to overlook) and I know they are SEC but I am solidly behind Texas Tech today. Go Red Raiders!!!! Heck, I would even root for the Longhorns against Nutt and that should tell you just how much I can not stand the man. Maybe I should try to work on letting this go for the New Year......nah.:)

In with the New
Happy New Year! I think 2009 is a year filled with promise and possibility! At least that's what I am hoping (and praying) for.
I thought back last night on all the New Year's Eve festivities I used to attend. Wow! I have had some great times! Normally it ended with me feeling pretty darn crappy on Day ONE of the New Year. There's something about being hungover on New Year's Day.....you may feel bad but not near as bad if it were a regular day. My favorite New Year's were the 3 Cotton Bowls I celebrated. Of course the Hogs did not win, but it was always fun. My next fave are the rest of the ones spent with good friends. First with sorority sisters, second with college friends (up until the age of 28), then from 29 to present day with my papaw of a husband and my good friends from home. You know who you are so no need to name. Those memorable New Year's eves were spent at the Marianna armory, the FCCC, and an attempt to get into the American Legion (which was unsuccessful). It is sad when you are too inebriated to get into the Legion. True, FUN, but sad. LOL We did score party hats, though. I have to say, though, that the older one gets it is nice to meet the New Year bright eyed and bushy tailed. Not hanging. I don't miss it at all.
When I think of the New Year, it is hard not to think of my mamaw. God rest her soul. She taught me a whole lot especially old wive's tales. I know more folklore and superstitions than just about anybody my age. Thanks to mamaw! So, if you don't eat black-eyed peas at some point today....you won't have health and wealth in 2009. Don't say I didn't warn ya. The hog jowl doesn't have the same meaning but I like to eat my peas with smoked jowl. It's for flavor:) Personally, I am not a superstitious person. I don't really believe in them but it IS fun to participate.
Here's to the New Year! Welcome to 2009! Later......
