Let me just start out by saying that I am not here to sway you to become an Obama fan. I teach Civics, Government, and US History. I LOVE History! I think it is wonderful and fascinating. Each day is a gift in life and not everyday is as historical as this one. Like it or not, the US made history today. To be able to watch the Inauguration ceremony LIVE on CNN and share it with my students was absolutely too good an opportunity to pass up. The pomp and circumstance absolutely fascinate me. Nowhere else in this world do ousted and/or past world leaders unite to usher in a new administration. Truly only in America. We are so unique and very good sports. Ofcourse when our Congress gets down to business we will return to our bi-partisan aisles because Democrats and Republicans have a very different view on how our policies should be. But they share uniquely and are united in their love for America. We are truly the greatest country on Earth.
I so enjoyed sharing trivia with my kids. They were, for the most part, respectful. Those that were not did not last long. In this life most of us are taught right from wrong. And no matter who you are, if you were taught right, you would not wish death upon another person just because they were different from you. And definitely not in front of their family. But sometimes we speak before we think and that's just part of life here in the South.
I truly hope that what came out of this day, all over our country, is that no matter who you are, what race or sex you are, no matter your background be it rich or poor, or where you came from or who your family is that you CAN strive to be whatever it is YOU want to be and that those barriers should no longer be an obstacle to your path. God has truly blessed the U.S.A.
