Oscar, the Warden, and My Best New Life

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed watching the Oscars last night. I have always been a fan of Hugh Jackman even before he was the Sexiest Man Alive. He didn't disappoint. However, I did not think that the 5+ minute Musical montage with him and Beyonce was all that necessary. I mean it added way too much time to the show. But that's just me. And Zack Efron (sp?) needs to cut his hair and oh, maybe WASH it. I thought it weird that Jennifer Aniston had to stand in front of Brangelina. Wow, that probably sucked for her AND him (but probably not for Angelina-she's fearless!) Also, I think Jen could find a way better date than John Mayer...he reminds me of the boy in the bubble for some reason. Or a vampire. Either way he doesn't "do" it for me.

I took my 9th grade Civics class to Brickey's today to tour the prison. This is my 3rd tour in as many years and I always learn something each time. The Deputy Warden, Mr. Outlaw (seriously, that's his last name..how cool is that?), told me that he should start giving me commission since I am there so much. I may just take him up on it. LOL The kids were great. They asked a lot of really good questions, and I think they really thought about where they were AND where they NEVER wanted to be. The best part of the tour, for me, is when they walk us into the barracks with about 50 inmates. It freaks the kids out which just tickles me. I love to see their expressions! Fear...priceless. It really cracked me up when this big guy with tatoos all over his neck got up..I thought they were going to bolt! LOL Honestly, I was gonna bolt with them! Scary looking guy. It always ends with inmate Ashley who is serving a life sentence without parole for murder talking to them in the chapel. The talk lasts about 1 hour but it's the quietest hour EVER. They really pay attention. He is a murderer and that's all one really needs to know.

OK..if you know me at all or have read this blog for a long time you know that I don't really diet. I am only 5'1" and have dieted ALL my adult life but after my gallbladder was removed in 2006, my weight is just no longer an issue. However, I am not a very healthy eater. I like junk. I like snacks. I like soda, albeit diet, but also will drink beer or anything except gin and/or shots. Anyways, I found this book by Bob Greene, Oprah's trainer, about how to change your eating habits from crap to healthy. Well, that had ME written ALL over it. So far, other than taking a multi-vitamin which I absolutely can NOT do (constitution issues...tmi I know) it makes a lot of sense. I am going to give it a try...I will not post before/after pics because well, a 40 year old body just ain't that good to look at. :)

Additional rambling:
Wednesday is the start of Lent. I have decided I am giving up guilt. You heard me...guilt. I am not going to feel guilty about who I am, how I am, what I am, OR what I say for the entire Lenten season. On the surface this may look to be an easy task...but I assure you it is NOT.

Well, hope all have an absolutely wonderful week! Later.......
